Bad Dates Totally Suck, But At Least We Have These Songs
From Jon’s “About the Album” section of his site JonSavittSings:
Relationships can be hard to navigate. One minute you’re falling in love and the next you’re crying while listening to Kacey Musgraves on the subway and a stranger is like, “Hey, you okay?” and you’re like, “I’m fine just leave me alone.” And the added pressure from your Jewish grandparents to get married doesn’t help. Wait what Jon shut up. When it comes to love, there’s a lot we can be sad and cynical about. These feelings are often reflected in traditional love songs.
But there’s also a funnier side of dating. By funny I don’t mean lol. I mean like when Ann Coulter talks and it’s so absurd your immediate reaction is to laugh. You have the arbitrary “rules,” societal expectations, dating apps — also kissing is kinda weird when you think about it. Sometimes you just have to laugh.
Sometimes it helps to put things in perspective, not take ourselves too seriously, and acknowledge that there’s not one correct path to follow. This album won’t help you do any of that. I have no idea what I’m doing.
I hope you enjoy it anyway.
FIELD NOTES FROM THE FUNNY OR DIE STAFF
Jon Savitt is one funny dude. And these songs are enjoyable romps through the awkward search for connection that makes us human beans do some truly weird things.
