COFFEE SHOPS ARE REALLY HARD TO MANAGE
They may SEEM cozy and comfortable — a chill spot for a community to gather, sip a hot beverage, and get some things done (or kill time on someone else’s WiFi). And when done well, the vibe a dope coffee shop creates seems effortless. But what goes on behind the counter is another story. This stuff takes WORK.
Four friends and graduates from Howard University quickly discover these ups and downs after they open one of the few black-owned coffee shops in the nation’s capital. Malcolm, the level-headed voice of reason; Anthony, the die-hard coffee connoisseur; Travis, a local juice vendor who keeps popping by; and Beachum, the shop’s penny-pinching manager all try to grow their fledgling little operation from ‘just another’ coffeehouse to something of a powerhouse.
First step on that journey? Keeping the doors open despite the headaches, surprises, and pitfalls that go hand-in-hand with running a business around hot bean water, not to mention contending with their own outrageous arguments.
