Tim Heidecker’s Call-In Show Is The Only Thing Keeping Me Sane Right Now
We’re at the very beginning of a societal lockdown anticipated to be in effect for two weeks minimum, possibly more, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. While postponing major sports seasons, music festivals, live shows, any television program recorded with a studio audience, and staying holed up at home are extremely necessary measures to take, there’s no denying that this shit is boring, man.
I’m an introvert who picks staying home over going out probably close to 100% of the time, and even I can confirm that self isolation definitely takes a toll on the ol’ psyche. I’m on week two and I realized today that I have become way too emotionally invested in what goes down at the bird feeder outside my window when I caught myself saying, “Hey, don’t be such a greedy dick, you hogged that spot yesterday,” out loud, to one particular bird that I recognize, while alone in my kitchen.
Suffice to say, I think we’re all kind of starved for entertainment or, like, any kind of mental stimulation right now.
Luckily, there are comedians out there like Tim Heidecker who are doing the lord’s work and providing us with quarantine content.
Tim, joined by Vic Berger and DJ Douggpound, hosts a “weekly-ish” live call-in show that covers everything from politics and current events, to music, to personal anecdotes. Basically, the three of them shoot the shit together and take calls from anyone who feels like dialing in (the number is in the video descriptions), with the help of different special guests. Last week’s special guests included John C. Reilly, Fred Armisen, and Kyle Mooney, among many others — and it was eight hours long.
It’s truly the ultimate variety show, probably the only thing that will keep me from going fully insane while in isolation, and definitely the closest most of us will get to hanging out casually with cool-as-shit comedians like Tim Heidecker.
Here’s part one:
