In the new Dumbo, directed by Tim Burton, hard-on-his-luck circus boss Max Medici enlists a former star and his family to care for Dumbo, a baby elephant born with oversized ears and a mother who gives him great advice in exchange for the RIGHT WAY to bathe the being who brought you into the world. When the family discovers that this elephant can fly, Dumbo soon becomes the main attraction — bringing in huge audiences and breathing new life into the run-down circus. But, to the horror of the circus-going audiences, Dumbo’s real self lurks right beneath the surface, in that spot that elephant experts unanimously have identified as that spot behind all that creepy face paint — right under the killer smile.

Smile! Tim Burton’s live action remake of the beloved film about everyone’s favorite flying elephant with big ol’ ears (Dumbo, duh) just got dipped in a healthy and delicious circus water trough comprised of maniacal laughter, really weird clown make-up, and a sprinkling of mother-son dysfunction in this mash-up that combines Dumbo and Todd Philip’s dark vision for 2019’s Joker.

“I used to think my life was a tragedy,” says Dumbo, the Chordata with the highest-flying earlobes in the game right now, voiced by Joaquin Phoenix. “But now I realize it’s a comedy.”

Amen, freak, amen to THAT.
