Stop What You’re Doing, The Animaniacs Are Coming Back

Cartoons have been around for over a hundred years. After the incredible success that was Disney’s Steamboat Willie in 1928, cartoons quickly became popularized among audiences and critics of all ages, and in the century (roughly) that’s passed since then, a whole lot of ‘toons have come and gone. Some have been wonderful, some have sucked, some have been truly, truly disturbing, but only a small few have been great enough to stand the test of time and become favorites across multiple generations.

Like, for example, The Animaniacs.

The Animaniacs was a cartoon sketch series of the 1990’s that birthed some of the greatest characters in cartoon history, like the disenchanted and clever old squirrel Slappy, the extremely-New-York mob of pigeons known as the Goodfeathers, the eccentric Dr. Scratchansniff, and his incredibly patient and probably severely underpaid assistant, Hello Nurse. While each episode featured different segments, the entire series centered around three absolutely bonkers siblings of unknown species (maybe dogs with gloves?? Who knows), Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, as they wreak havoc on the Warner Bros. Studio lot. Animaniacs was the perfect blend of slapstick comedy, tongue-in-cheek humor that adults loved and was still safe for kids, top-shelf satire, and hilarious pop-culture parody. It was a show literally the entire family could watch together, and everyone genuinely enjoyed it.

Put simply, The Animaniacs was the shit.

And now the gang’s getting back together, baby!

Hulu has just greenlit two seasons of an Animaniacs revival, with Steven Spielberg coming back as the executive producer, and the original voice cast reprising their roles! That’s Rob Paulsen as Yakko, Jess Harnell as Wakko, and Tress MacNeille as Dot.

The first season is set to premiere on Hulu in 2020, which sounds like a long way in the future but guys, it’s already October. So get ready — Yakko, Wakko, and Dot are gonna bust open the Warner Bros. water tower door sooner than you think!

IT’S TIME FOR ANIMANIACS
